At Phone Travel co, we love to show off the natural beauties Luang Prabang has to offer while also showing you the traditional lifestyles still being practiced today. If you are looking for a challenging jungle trek where you can make a positive impact on local life then this is the trek for you!
Day 1 you will be picked up from your accommodation by one of our local drivers and taken to our family owned elephant camp. Here you will have the opportunity to have a one on one encounter with our much loved elephants. After this you will take a short boat ride to the Bankok village where you will get to learn about the lifestyle of the Kamou Tribe. From here you will catch a boat cross the Mekong river to the Moungkeo village, here you can learn to make the local wiskey made from rice called lao lao. From here the trekking starts! A 2 hour trek up to our homestay through our dense jungle where our local tour guide will prepare a delicious lao meal for lunch. Upon arrival to the homestay we will give you a chance to catch your breath and take in the amazing views the homestay has to offer before trekking further uphill to our viewing point where you will get to see breath taking views of the Mekong and Namou river. In June to November you can see the local people planting rice here and if you want to you can help to! Then return back to the Home stay where you will have a traditional lao meal and relax around the camp fire while taking in the views of the stars unaffected by the city lights.
Day 2 after breakfast you will begin trekking to the Hmogn village. This is a medium level 4 hour trek but please don’t rush there are lots of great opportunities for photos along this walk and our local guides will be happy to teach you about our native plants and what they can be used for. Upon arrival to the Hmogn village expect to be greeted by lots of smiling kids. The Hmogn villagers live a very traditional life style there is no electricity here so don’t forget your battery packs! One of the local familys will share their house with you where they will prepare a meal for you and perform a ceremony called Baci where the village sharman will bless you.
Day 3 In the morning after breakfast you will have the opportunity to visit the local village where you can help teach the kids some basic English you will be surprised at how fast they learn! After this you have two options you can take the short track back to Luang Prabang where you will finish at Bansom and Banah village where a minivan will be waiting to take you back to the city. Option two is a more challenging 4 hour hike which finishes Moungkham village where you will catch a boat across the Mekong river where a minivan will be waiting for you to take you back to on a short trip back to the city.
